Safety tips for burning pellet fuels and fire logs
- Read the owners manual for your appliance (stove, insert, etc) and follow the manufacturers instructions for all operations.
- Don't use flammable liquids to start a fire.
- Have your chimney professionally inspected & cleaned at regular intervals
- Keep all appliance or fireplace doors or screens closed when in use.
- Have a working smoke and CO detector in your home.
- Don't leave an open fireplace fire unattended.
- Have a working fire extinguisher in your home and know how to use it.
- Prepare an emergency escape plan for your home and family and practise it.
- Don't leave young children alone near a fire or stove
- Keep combustible materials and furniture away from stoves & fireplaces
- Don't overload your stove or fireplace - build small fires
